Bats represent a quarter of all living mammals on earth yet they are largely misunderstood and underappreciated for their role in maintaining the ecosystem.

In this naturalist program, you will learn the many benefits of bats, the major threats to their survival, and the species of bats found in Wisconsin. After "Bat 101" we will take (up to) a 45-minute-long hike to echolocate bats as they eat insects (up to 8,000 per night!). The data collected will be given to the Wisconsin DNR to aid in their conservation efforts.

Join Wisconsin Master Naturalist & bat enthusiast, Tracy Phillippi, and become a citizen scientist in Monona!

This program is part of a "Library Swap" between librarians at Monona Public Library and the Village of Cottage Grove Library Board.
